City Roots – Your In-Town Sustainable Farm
City Roots vision is to produce clean, healthy, sustainably grown products while enhancing and educating our community about the benefits of locally grown food, composting, vermicomposting and other environmentally friendly farming practices. City Roots is an organic farm and fish hatchery on a three acre former vacant lot conveniently located within the City of Columbia in the Rosewood neighborhood next to Owens Field Airport and recreational facilities. Lexington County Solid Waste Management
Lexington County Solid Waste Management offers a multi-faceted field trip that can be customized especially for your class! Offered at the Edmund facility off SC 302, your class can see a working recycling/municipal solid waste collection station, oil recycling operation, transfer station and landfill. Especially beneficial when paired with a field trip to Paper Stock Dealers/Sonoco, a working materials recovery facility! Presentations are also available for teachers, students and other groups. Tours are available at Sonoco Recycling in Columbia for students aged 4-104. See recycling in action, and learn about the wonderful products made from these recovered natural resources.
